About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Senior Collections & Insolvency Specialist to join a growing fintech and play a key role in building and leading a high-performing collections function.
This role is ideal for someone with strong Canadian consumer collections experience, particularly with Consumer Proposals, Bankruptcies, insolvency processes, credit bureau reporting, and regulated financial services.
The successful candidate will bring both hands-on collections expertise and leadership capability. They will manage complex and escalated accounts, support customers through difficult financial situations, coach agents, strengthen collections processes, and help establish best practices as the business scales.
What You’ll Do
Collections & Account Management
- Manage delinquent consumer credit card accounts across various stages of delinquency.
- Conduct professional, empathetic, and effective outbound collections activities.
- Negotiate payment arrangements and appropriate resolution strategies within company guidelines.
- Identify accounts requiring escalation, specialized treatment, or additional investigation.
- Handle complex and high-risk accounts, including customers experiencing financial hardship.
- Balance customer experience, recovery performance, compliance, and risk.
Consumer Proposals & Bankruptcies
- Serve as a subject-matter resource for Consumer Proposals, Bankruptcies, insolvency notices, and related account activity.
- Review and appropriately action insolvency documentation and notifications.
- Understand the impact of insolvency proceedings on account status, collections activity, interest, payments, recoveries, and credit bureau reporting.
- Liaise with Licensed Insolvency Trustees and other relevant parties where required.
- Ensure accounts are handled consistently and in accordance with applicable requirements and internal policies.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes surrounding insolvency accounts and recovery.
Reporting, Controls & Process Improvement
- Monitor key collections metrics including:
- Contact rate
- Right-party contact rate
- Promise-to-pay rate
- Kept-promise rate
- Recovery rate
- Roll rates
- Delinquency/aging
- Cure rate
- Collection productivity
- Portfolio balances and recoveries
- Identify trends and recommend strategies to improve recovery.
- Help develop reporting and dashboards for collections performance.
- Recommend improvements to policies, workflows, technology, and customer communications.
- Partner with Customer Service, Risk, Finance, Fraud, Compliance, and Operations teams.
- Support the development and maintenance of collections SOPs and controls.
What You’ll Bring
- 5+ years of experience in collections, preferably within credit cards, banking, lending, fintech, or another regulated financial services environment.
- Strong collections experience.
- Demonstrated experience handling Consumer Proposals and Bankruptcies.
- Strong understanding of delinquency management, payment arrangements, recoveries, and account escalation.
- Experience working with credit bureau reporting and understanding how account status can be impacted by payments, delinquency, and insolvency.
- Previous experience coaching, mentoring, or leading collections agents.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong negotiation and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to handle sensitive financial conversations with professionalism and empathy.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work with confidential financial information.

- Experience with credit card collections.
- Fintech or high-growth technology environment experience.
- Experience with early-, mid-, and late-stage collections.
- Experience developing collection strategies and segmentation.
- Experience with hardship programs and vulnerable customers.
- Knowledge of Canadian consumer credit and insolvency practices.
- Experience working with Licensed Insolvency Trustees.
- Familiarity with FCAC expectations, applicable consumer protection requirements, and privacy obligations.
- Experience with collections platforms, dialers, CRM systems, and contact-centre technology.
- Strong Excel/data-analysis skills.
- Experience building or improving collections SOPs, QA programs, and training programs.
- Help build a scalable collections operation that balances recovery, customer experience, risk, and compliance.

- Compensation: CA $60,000-75,000
- Base salary range: For this role, candidates can expect a base salary range, described in the posting. Actual compensation is determined based on skills, experience, and role level. Exceptional candidates may be considered above the top of the range and pay increases for those who make a big impact in the role.
